PM Netanyahu: Israel played no part in Kurdish referendum

Iraq Set To Impose Flight Ban On Kurdistan In Row Over Independence

Official results showed that 92.73 percent of voters backed statehood in Monday's non-binding referendum, with turnout estimated at 72.61 percent.

This is meant to be a response to the referendum "illegitimate" on the independence of iraqi Kurdistan.Iran will perform in the next few days maneuvers with Iraq in their border.

Two US officials said Washington was concerned about possible operations involving Iraqi, Iranian or Turkish forces, or a combination thereof. An Iraqi force is also deployed on the Turkish side of the border as part of joint drills with the Turkish army.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent troops and tanks to the border with the KRG earlier this week, where they have been joined for joint exercises with Iraqi soldiers.

Iran, which has condemned the referendum as illegal, on Friday banned the transportation of refined oil products by Iranian companies to and from Iraqi Kurdistan.

Gas oil is one of Iran's main exports to the autonomous Kurdistan region, which imported 110 million litres of it from Iran previous year, state broadcaster IRIB said quoting figures from the National Oil Company.

The above-mentioned referendum in northern Iraq had faced sharp opposition from most regional and global actors, fuelling concerns that the poll would further destabilise the Middle East. That's due to tensions over an independence referendum held this week in Iraq's Kurdish region and disputed territories.

For all this, the United States urged both Baghdad and Erbil - the Kurdish capital - "to calm down and put an end to reciprocal recriminations and threats".

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on September 27 had said that he wanted the referendum to be declared invalid, as a prerequisite for dialogue.

"They are measures for the entrance and departure of commodities and people under the control of the federal government and the federal regulatory bodies, as apply in all Iraqi checkpoints to stop prevent smuggling and corruption", it added.

As such, Baghdad has blocked global flights to the Kurdish region known as Kurdistan, and Iraq's parliament has requested that Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi slap charges against any Kurdish leaders who took part in the referendum, which Baghdad considers unconstitutional.
