Jose Mourinho provides Paul Pogba injury update ahead of Crystal Palace clash

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Manchester United Europa League

Manchester United boss José Mourinho has warned his star striker Romelu Lukaku that he won't be getting rested any time soon - with the fiery Portuguese manager seemingly unwilling to utilise another player in the centre-forward position until Zlatan Ibrahimović makes his long awaited return from injury.

Mourinho listing Pogba along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo, who have been out of action since suffering knee ligament injuries in April, does appear worrying for United.

"Look, without Zlatan, we can not rotate the striker, especially because Marcus Rashford is playing also in other positions", Mourinho said ahead of Saturday's visit of bottom club Crystal Palace.

He then added saying he did not want to speak about long-term injuries but was more hopeful on the fitness of defenders Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia.

"I have the hope to see them in training".

Mourinho, whose team host Crystal Palace on Saturday, said it would be up to the 24-year-old Lukaku to continue delivering until Ibrahimovic was available once more.

United have made an impressive start to the new campaign, but their 4-1 win at CSKA Moscow in the Champions League in midweek was followed by a draining return flight that saw United land in Manchester in the early morning of Thursday.

"I think only a strong character could resist the difficulties here", said Mourinho.

Mourinho said: "Without Zlatan, we can not rotate the striker, especially because Marcus Rashford is playing in other positions". We think he is an important player.

Complaining of "disrespect to the club", Mourinho said: "I just think it's odd because in every country the decisions are made to protect the clubs and here that doesn't happen".

Instead, he spoke about the importance of mental preparation for weekend games such as Saturday's match against struggling Crystal Palace.
