San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain will retire after one last start

Cain'More Than Satisfied After Five Shutout Innings in Final Big League Start

With this game being strictly for pride and bragging rights, I'd advise putting your money elsewhere, but for the sake of a pick, the Giants have had success against San Diego with Cueto on the bump, and I think the Giants will want to send their fans home happy after such a poor season, so I'd lay the juice with San Fran if I had to.

Cain gave up two hits, struck out four and walked one. Sandoval's homer came off of Phil Maton, and it might have cost the Giants the chance to pick first in next year's draft.

What happened Sunday? The Giants won, thanks to Pablo Sandoval's walk-off home run against the Padres in Game 162 (SF 5, SD 4).

The Padres (71-91) lost for the sixth time in seven games as they concluded their seventh straight losing season with a modest improvement of three more wins than last season. He connected on his 26th homer off Cueto in the third inning.

Perdomo tripled leading off the fourth inning, his fifth of the year and his second against the Giants.

The Giants pushed a go-ahead run across after the Padres pulled their starter, right-hander Jhoulys Chacin, after six strong innings. Though Perdomo reached third base in just over 11.5 seconds to become the first pitcher with four triples in the same season since 1955, Parker should have been able to limit him to a double.

Unlike the Tigers, who have already fired manager Brad Ausmus and had Andrew Romine play all nine positions in their Saturday win, the Giants were determined to fight until the end.

Cain, who announced his retirement on Wednesday, left Saturday's game with a 1-0 lead over the Padres after five innings of two-hit ball. It was Sandoval who fought the longest, and barring a Tigers' comeback, San Francisco will have the No. 2 overall pick.
