FBI Hopes Paddock's Girlfriend Can Provide Insight Into Las Vegas Attack

Marilou Danley has arrived back in the US and will be questioned by authorities

The investigation into the motives of a Las Vegas retiree who killed 58 people in the worst mass shooting in modern USA history turned on Tuesday to the gunman's girlfriend in the Philippines, where she turned up after the massacre, authorities said. Police don't know if the devices were transmitting - the FBI is investigating their use - but the Clark County sheriff said he thinks Paddock might have used them to watch for people approaching his room.

Paddock reportedly used Danley's identification when he checked into the Mandalay Bay hotel.

Lombardo, who said on Monday Danley was believed to be in Tokyo, told reporters on Tuesday she had been located in the Philippines and the Federal Bureau of Investigation was in the process of trying to bring her back to the United States. "He was so rude to her in front of us". But when a SWAT team stormed the room where Paddock had been staying since September 28, they found he had killed himself.

Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo hopes Ms Danley can provide a "substantial amount" of information on Paddock's motives.

Workers at Stephen Paddock's local Starbucks immediately remembered the tall man with a big beer belly and bags under his eyes who used to come in with his girlfriend, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The sister said Paddock "done this exclusively himself".

Reports say she moved to the U.S. 20 years ago, marrying Geary Danley from Arkansas.

Investigators have been piecing together Paddock's life. The 64-year-old, retired, twice-divorced accountant - who at one time had jobs at the US Post Office and the IRS, a representative of the Office of Personnel Management told CNN - had no significant criminal history and was previously unknown to police.

Paddock transferred $100,000 to the Philippines in the days before the shooting, a US official briefed by law enforcement but not authorized to speak publicly because of the continuing investigation told the AP on condition of anonymity.

"This investigation is not ended with the demise of Mr. Paddock", the sheriff said.

The gun attachment that mimics automatic gunfire is a little-known device called a "bump stock" that is not widely sold. "He loved her. I mean he doted on her".

The former Gold Coast woman, 62, had been living with Paddock in Mesquite, Nevada, before the shooting but was in the Philippines when the massacre occurred.

'It's a very, very sad day for me personally, ' he said. But officials haven't been able to say exactly when the money transfer took place or who was the recipient.

Marilou Danley, who U.S. authorities have described as a "person of interest" in the investigation, left Manila on Tuesday evening aboard Philippine Airlines Flight PR 102, according to Philippines immigration spokeswoman Antonette Mangrobang. Danley's sister also echoed the sentiment, saying Marilou had no knowledge of Paddock's plans and that "she was sent away".

He said that authorities were "learning a lot more" about the shooter and that more details would be "announced at an appropriate time".
