Pujdeme accused the king of Spain in "ignoring the millions of Catalans"

Spain's economy takes' the defendant of independence

Hardliners are reportedly pushing for the Catalan government to continue with their plans for declaring independence, while the regional president's "mainstream separatist" group worries that would lead to immediate negative economic consequences.

Puigdemont appears to want worldwide mediation to be given a chance before he presses the button.

The Catalan government has given scant details as to how it would handle matters such as security, border and airspace control, finances and health.

The agency said it expected to "resolve the CreditWatch within the next three months".

The moderates are trying to find a way to avoid the nuclear option of declaring independence without triggering unrest on the streets from supporters who might feel let down. In a sign of the nervous public mood, Catalonia's biggest bank, Caixabank, and Spain's economy minister sought to assure bank customers their deposits were safe.

He also accused the national government of failing to respond to proposals for mediation in the crisis. He insisted dialogue was the only way forward: "Spain has the choice to just say no or to sit down and talk". Although #Spain has tried hard to stop the vote by barricading voting precincts and sending police to stop voters beforehand, they were ineffective.

And Madrid could be preparing to take severe measures, at least on the judicial front.

One formula under discussion would involve a so-called deferred independence, with Puigdemont announcing a period of weeks before his decree will be implemented in an effort to force the Spanish government to the negotiating table, the people said.

He warned that separatist aspirations and their rise in the Catalan region "will open a door for separatists across Europe affecting other territories like Corsica, Veneto and others". "This is a clear indication of how insane the regional government of Catalonia is".

Under article 155 of the Spanish constitution, the central government in Madrid can suspend the autonomous powers of the northeastern region of Catalonia. "Negotiation in democracy only has one way, the way of the law". Barcelona captain Gerard Pique has been the most prominent critic in the team of Spain's handling of the crisis, while the club's former manager and current Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is an outspoken supporter of Catalan independence.

This decision came a day after the European Commission explained the Catalan issue was "an internal matter for Spain that "has to be dealt with in line with the constitutional order of Spain", before adding that "violence can never be an instrument in politics".

News of the detention in mid-September of key organisers of the referendum sparked a wave of rallies in Catalonia. Spain has protested the movie, which has ignited tension. Spain disputes the result, saying that many people voted a few times due to the lack of proper guarantees.
