Snapchat Launches Location-Based 'Context Cards' With Uber, Goop, TripAdvisor and Others

How to make Snapchat videos longer

Users will be able to access basic information about the Snap such as the name of the place where it was taken, what kind of venue it is, and a rating from a partner like TripAdvisor.

By introducing more search features, Snapchat hopes to give its users more reason to stay on the app while also enabling more opportunities for ads - though that's not the case with Context Cards as of now.

They're essentially adverts, which are created to display information about businesses, venues and places, and make it easier for you to visit or make a booking with them.

If users share their location along with a Snap - either by submitting it to a public Our Story or by adding a special venue filter - Snapchat will let others swipe up to see more info about that location.

To find context cards, swipe up on any Snaps that says "more" at the bottom.

Snapchat has also partnered with both Uber and Lyft to integrate with ride sharing services so you can see wait times for the closest driver, and Snapchat says it will add more partners over time for Context Cards. For example, someone may send you a picture of a plate of food they're now devouring, and add a geofilter to the image detailing where exactly they are. Or if you want to make a reservation, it may throw up Bookatable as an option.

Additional cards may contain reviews, hours of operation, phone numbers and links to hail a ride or book a reservation.

The update will be available for iOS and Android users of the app in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

This video will be released to Snapchat users in the coming weeks.

Which Cards are available and the order in which they appear is dynamic - Snapchat says it aims to always show you the most relevant information.
