Ben Simmons Says Joel Embiid is Unstoppable

Wealthy and healthy Joel Embiid makes solid preseason debut as Sixers rip Nets

When he finally burst onto the scene last season, the game had changed for the Sixers, and for Embiid.

That price tag could go up to $178 million if the 23-year-old is named to the All-NBA first, second, or third team, or is declared the 2017 MVP. It could also take the pressure of rushing back to the court off him and wait until he's a 100% and ready to perform.

Just last week, Embiid was going for a midnight jog through Philadelphia and a Lyft driver caught the scene on camera.

The 76ers have put their trust in Joel Embiid.

But even if you pay the hefty $200 annual fee for NBA League Pass, their support staff claims you will be unable to (legally) watch the game in the Philadelphia area.

I have no problem with players earning their keep, but National Basketball Association history dictates that people his size don't recover well from problems involving their backs and lower extremities (knees and ankles). "I want to thank ownership, management, the coaches and most of all the fans, for supporting me throughout this whole process". Giving an injury prone guy this much money is fairly unprecedented.

The 35-page contract would reportedly eliminate the Sixers' escape clause if Embiid played a minimum of 1,650 regular season minutes for three consecutive seasons, or three out of the next four seasons.

The Cameroonian worldwide averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game through 31 games in his rookie season. Oh, and he shot 36.7 percent from three-point range.

Barring any setbacks, Embiid, who missed the team's first three exhibitions, should be healthy enough to practice at KU, then play during his return trip to the Sprint Center, where he scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds blocked four shots and had three steals in the Jayhawks' 80-63 victory over New Mexico on December 14, 2013.

Wednesday's game will be the last preseason outing for the Sixers prior to the start of the regular season. When he wasn't? They operated as a 19.7-win team.

Philadelphia is taking a risk by giving Embiid a giant contract, but the payoff is well worth the risks.

His performance past year garnered the respect of even harshest critics. And given Embiid's rare talent, there's a belief that he'd have to suffer a career-ending injury to inspire the 76ers to release him. "A lot of people don't have a lot of stuff". "He has a chance to be great".

What Embiid was able to display in such a small sample size, and after sitting out for over two years, is nothing short of impressive.

Simmons was asked by a reporter why Embiid deserves all that money. Brown even likened Embiid to a musician. "When you look at his body of work ... he's really only been playing basketball for six years, he's just scratching the surface". But if he can't stay healthy, the Sixers may come to regret this decision.
