Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) Makes Prime Even More Affordable For Students

Amazon now lets teenagers shop via separate logins attached to their parents' accounts

Amazon is introducing a convenient way for teens 13 through 17 years old to shop on Amazon with their own login.

But fret not, kids aren't given carte blanche to buy what they want - parents are able to decide on an approval process. Parents can either sign up their teen, or a teen can send an invitation to mom or dad via SMS or email.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) already offers a steep discount for its Prime service for college students, but the e-commerce giant just made its trademark free shipping and video streaming service even more accessible. Through the Amazon App, teens can now shop or stream content while parents will have the right to approve all orders or preapprove spending limits for the child.

The new accounts for teens on Amazon allow parents to control their teen's purchasing while still giving them access to their own benefits. Once received, the parent confirms which payment method and shipping address will be used for teens' orders.

A Household allows you to connect and share Amazon benefits with the whole family. Amazon's default setting with this service is autoapproval of orders, but parents can individually approve them via text if they so prefer. "We've listened to families and have built a great experience for both teens and parents", Michael Carr, vice president, Amazon Households said in a statement. In this case, the parent will receive a notification with an itemized list of the order, and the option remains to cancel it or initiate a refund if it is too late to cancel.

Their credit card information will be hidden on the teen accounts, as will their purchase and browsing histories.
