Hawks acquire Jefferson, Felder from Cavs

REPORT | Cleveland Cavaliers trade Richard Jefferson, Kay Felder to Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks and Cavaliers have agreed to a trade that will bring Richard Jefferson and Kay Felder to Atlanta along with two future second-round draft picks and cash.

No agreement has been reached, but the Bucks and Jefferson, 37, share a mutual interest on a possible deal once he clears waivers on Monday, league sources said.

The Vertical's Chris Mannix reported Jefferson intends to continue his National Basketball Association career after he's waived by the Hawks, while Wojnarowski noted Felder is "likely" to be let go.

The Cavaliers will send the lesser of second-round picks owed to them from the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves in 2019 and a 2020 second-round pick via Portland, league sources said. In two seasons in Cleveland, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 5.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

The Cavaliers are not able to re-sign Jefferson for a calendar year, meaning that the 37-year-old could decide to retire.

For the Cavs, the trade trims to their roster to the necessary 15-player limit before their season opener against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night. As for the Atlanta Hawks, the received 3.7 million dollars from Cleveland and will waive both Jefferson and Kay Felder, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Jefferson was an important member of the 2016 championship team and the co-host of the popular Road Trippin' Podcast alongside Channing Frye.

Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue didn't have much to say about the deal prior to Friday's preseason game against Orlando. "It's definitely tough, and [I'm] just trying to figure it out".

Derrick Rose, who joined the team this offseason, said he was unaware Jefferson and Felder had been traded. "While they were here they were great guys".
