Quality Infrastructure will not affect traditional ethos of Kedarnath : PM

Pm Modi

"I expressed my wish to carry out reconstruction work at Kedarnath to the then chief minister of the state who agreed in principle". During his address at Gandhinagar on Monday, Modi had mentioned about the roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) ferry service as his dream project and he will also be inaugurating the first phase of the Rs 615 crore roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) ferry service between Ghogha in Bhavnagar district and Dahej in Bharuch in the Gulf of Cambay. Ro Ro ferry service will help saving fuel, foreign exchange and will be environment friendly too. Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah was in India from September 28-30, where he and Prime Minister Modi witnessed signing of an agreement to train Afghani police in India.

Meanwhile, the Congress accused Modi of "disrespecting" traditions during his Kedarnath visit and "misleading" the people on redevelopment work of the shrine after the 2013 deluge.

"Pilgrim numbers had decreased after the 2013 tragedy as people were sceptical if proper infrastructure existed here", Modi said.

The then Congress government in the state was headed by Vijay Bahuguna, who has since joined the BJP. "There is now a BJP government in Uttarakhand", Modi said in his 40-minute speech at Kedarnath, saying money will not be a constraint in redeveloping the site, including widening the pedestrian route to the shrine and developing new ghats. Some other projects include a Rs 166 crore water treatment plant, two flyovers collectively worth Rs 265 crore, a Rs 55 crore deer safari park, and a Rs 6 crore veterinary hospital.

An Uttarakhand official told IANS that Modi will also lay foundation stones for reconstruction of the "samadhi sthal" of Adi Shankra and construction of a museum.

Mr Modi said, "They (UPA government) viewed this with a kind of alarm as they thought the Gujarat CM will now reach Kedarnath, and mounted pressure on the then state government not to agree to my request".

"Prime minister Narendra Modi does baba's darshan wearing an Italian brand Bulgari glasses". The PM also conveyed his greetings to Gujaratis on the start of a Nutan Varsh (New Year). As the assembly elections are nearing in and the ruling party fearing the anti-incumbency, is trying hard to maintain its rule in Gujarat and not let Congress take over at any cost. "This is just a political gimmick before the elections (Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat)".
