Australian producer and musician George Young, older brother of AC/DC guitarists Malcolm and Angus, has passed away at the age of 70 on October 22, reports CoS. His brothers formed AC/DC in 1973, and George wound up co-producing several of their albums. "For all he did and gave to us throughout his life, we will always remember him with gratitude and hold him close to our hearts".

A statement posted on their website read: "It is with pain in our heart that we have to announce the passing of our beloved brother and mentor George Young".

Young was born in Scotland in 1946 and migrated to Australia with his family as a teenager.

CEO David Albert described him as a "consummate songwriter, trailblazing producer, artist, mentor and extraordinary musician".

"George was a pioneer who, with close friends Harry Vanda and Ted Albert, created a new sound for the Australian music industry, He will be missed".

Prior to AC/DC's formation, Young was the vocalist for the rock group Marcus Hook Roll Band, with his brothers on guitar.

Jimmy Barnes said on Twitter Young was "a great songwriter, producer and a great human being".

In 1988, Young and Vanda were inducted into the inaugural class of the ARIA Hall of Fame.

RIP George Young: from the Easybeats to Albert Productions, his influence on Oz music is immeasurable.

The Easybeats became the first Australian rock band to have an global hit song.

On George Young's suggestion, AC/DC recruited singer Bon Scott after firing Dave Evans in 1974; Scott's previous band, the Valentines, had released some Vanda/Young compositions as singles in the late Sixties.

In the early '70s, he along with his bandmate Harry Vanda became Australia's most sought-after producing duo. They also co-composed "Love Is In the Air", a Top 10 Billboard song in 1977 for John Paul Young.
