Nintendo Switch Will Let You Record But…

Game Cube Controller Support Sneakily Added for Switch

Obviously. They don't have a way of interfacing directly with Nintendo's latest hardware, but the Switch does have USB support.

According to Gamespot, after the installation of the update, the player can capture the previous 30 seconds of his/her playtime by holding down the Capture button on the console. Assuming you can get your Switch to recognize your GameCube controllers, you can then use them to play presumably any of the Switch's games - in GameXplain's video, for instance, we see Fire Emblem Warriors played with one.

Now, why would that be such a big deal you ask?

There's been an unexpected, unmentioned addition to Nintendo Switch with its 4.0.0 update - GameCube controllers (when using the Wii U's USB adapters) now work with the system. In the meantime, it seems that the hidden features in the Switch OS version 4.0 are more interesting than the flaunted features. Following the console's 3.0 update, there were reports that a third-party adapter could be used to connect a GameCube controller. In the past it was sold online by itself or as part of a bundle including Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Unfortunately, the adapter's no longer in production, so you might have to pay a bit extra to get your hands on one. Furthermore, the retro controllers function for every game, however the fact it has fewer buttons than dual Joy-Cons or a Pro Controller means it won't be very practical for all games. This will make navigating back to the Switch's home page quite tricky. For example, on Monday, Twitter user Master Mewking discovered that following the update, the Switch now has full support for GameCube controllers. Also, not all games work with the feature. You can find this feature in System Settings - Users - Transfer Your User and Save Data.

Almost every Nintendo Switch owner I've spoken to has professed their love for the portable console.
