Singapore passport gets new design, security upgrade

Singapore's Passport Declared World's Most Powerful Here's Why

Turkey and the Central African Republic revoked their visa-free status to United States passport holders, recently.

It appears, when it comes to global travel, not all passports are created equal.

"This is a testament of Singapore's inclusive diplomatic relations and effective foreign policy", Phillipe May, managing director of Arton Capital's Singapore office, said in a statement.

That means it's also a rank below South Korea and Sweden, and two ranks below the German passport.

Singapore now single-handedly dominates the first tier of the global passport rank, compared to its rival Germany which came in at 158 visa-free country allowances.

Meanwhile, it's good news for Singaporeans, as their national travel document has topped this year's rankings, making it the most powerful passport globally with access to 159 countries.

The passports of 193 United Nations member countries and six territories were considered.

The US passport has fallen in favor since Trump became president office, the Passport Index said, noting that Turkey and the Central African Republic were the most recent countries to revoke visa-free status to Americans.

Passport Index has released its power ranking and Singapore tops the list.

It was developed by Arton Capital, a global financial advisory specialising in investor programmes for residence and citizenship around the world.

"More and more people every year invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in a second passport to offer better opportunity and security for their families", he added.

Last year, the USA came close behind the United Kingdom, ranking in fourth tier, with its citizens able to travel visa-free to 156 countries.

Passport Index said the U.S. passport's usefulness has fallen since President Donald Trump took office, with Turkey and the Central African Republic becoming the most recent countries to revoke their visa-free entry for holders. In contrast, nations under duress-like Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen-round out the bottom of the list.
