Kim Jong-un and wife, Ri Sol-ju, visit cosmetics factory

Pictures Show North Korea's Kim Jong-Un In Rare Appearance With Wife

The North Korean leader's visit was broadcast on state media a day after US Defence Secretary James Mattis said the US would "never accept" a nuclear-armed North Korea.

Amid the responsibility of developing North Korea's nuclear program, the communist state's leader Kim Jong Un took a break for a public visit to a cosmetics factory in Pyongyang with his wife.

Ms Kim meanwhile can not be identified in the photographs, but the report by state news agency KCNA mentioned she was present along with other top officials.

He reportedly was "very pleased" with the products and the packaging was "very nice", KCNA stated. Both women are rarely seen in public.

Nuclear-mad Kim was photographed handling hairspray, looking at lipstick and staring at shampoo at the carefully managed PR shoot in Pyongyang.

Over the years many countries have stopped importing luxury goods into North Korea as a result of sanctions.

As the rotund ruler giggled as he was shown around, standing behind him was his dutiful wife Ri Sol-ju.

Thae Yong-ho, who was the No. 2 official at North Korea's embassy in London before defecting to South Korea past year, will speak before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday, Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA) said on the panel's website.

Recent United Nations (UN) sanctions following North Korea's provocative acts have placed additional economic pressure on Pyongyang, but that hasn't stopped Kim's regime from promising to sending more satellites, including a stationary one, into space.

The KCNA report noted that Kim told factory workers they were helping to realise "the dream of the women who want to be more beautiful".

The mosiac commemorates the visit made to the factory by Kim Jong Il in 2003.

Ri married Kim in 2009 and is believed to have given birth to three children, according to South Korean intelligence.

The photo op comes on the heels of U.S. defence secretary Jim Mattis's visit to South Korea, where he repeated the threat of a "massive military response" to North Korea's use of nuclear weapons.
