Del Potro closes in on WTF

Del Potro closes in on Tour Finals

John Isner stayed on track for the last spot at the ATP Finals by beating Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4 in the Paris Masters quarter-finals on Friday.

However, he must win the title in Paris to have a shot.

The 25-year-old Serbian made no mistake to become the first qualifier to reach the final in Paris since Jerzy Janowicz in 2012 and will next meet either French wildcard Julien Benneteau or American Jack Sock, who can qualify for the ATP Finals by claiming the Paris title.

The world number 17 brought up a set point with a pair of big first serves, and Isner double-faulted to send the match into a decider.

Krajinovic is the lowest-ranked player in a Masters final since 191st-ranked Andrei Pavel in Paris in 2003.

"I had treatment last night to try and be able to play today". "It was mentally really tough because, you know, getting older and older all sponsors said no to me". I don't like to stop in the middle of the match. "It was tough to control the emotions. It is a sad day for me".

Isner, a beaten finalist at this ATP 1000 event a year ago and seeded ninth in the French capital, needed to win Sunday's decider to book his place in the season-ending tournament at London's O2 Arena.

Now his compatriot Sock is the only man who can deny Carreno Busta.

The 32-year-old Isner forged a break point at the start of the third set, but missed it with a wasteful forehand which went long.

Del Potro, the No. 13 seed, struggled to hold his serve as he won just 68 and 61 percent of his first and second serve points respectively, reports Efe.

With Isner serving at 4-4 and 40-30 in the ninth game of the second set, the match was halted for six minutes when several medical staff attended to a female spectator, who was then taken away.

But the giant American, runner-up in Paris to Andy Murray previous year, found a second wind in a second-set tie-break, reeling off the first five points in a row.

Talented Serb managed to reach the main draw, only his 5th at this level in a career, and he started an awesome journey that led him all the way towards the final, his first at the ATP level!

Krajinovic said that the support of 12-time Grand Slam champion and Davis Cup team-mate Djokovic, who ended his 2017 season early due to an elbow injury, was invaluable.

I had a look at handicap lines, but I wasn't particularly enthused by the 11/10 about Krajinovic +2.5 games with the Sportsbook - I'd prefer around 5/4 - and likewise Krajinovic +1.5 sets at around evens.
