Lead Marvel Writer Brian Michael Bendis Departs for DC

Brian Michael Bendis Leaves Marvel, Signs Exclusivity Deal With DC

The deal will result in Bendis ending his 17-year working relationsip with Marvel.

DC Comics announced today that the company has signed comics writer Brian Michael Bendis to an exclusive contract, wooing him away from his longtime home at Marvel Comics. A Marvel spokesperson thanked Bendis for his tenure with the company and wished him luck with his future projects.

"We are beyond thrilled to welcome Brian Michael Bendis exclusively to the DC family with a multi-year, multi-faceted deal", DC tweeted. In addition to creating characters like Miles Morales and Jessica Jones, he presided over a super popular relaunch of the Avengers in 2004 and was the creative force behind several Marvel event series, including Secret Invasion and Age of Ultron.

"He's one of the premiere writers in the industry having created so many unforgettable stories whenever he's been and we can't wait to see what he has planned for the DC Universe", they continued.

Mr. Bendis started out as a writer for small press comic book publishers.

Bendis later retweeted the announcement, confirming it is real and not some nefarious plot by the Anti-Monitor.

It will be interesting to see who will be replacing Bendis in the four titles he is now writing and when they will come. It's easy to imagine Bendis putting dialogue in Dick Grayson's mouth in Nightwing, or DC reviving titles like Gotham Central or The Question under his watch. I am bursting with ideas and inspirations. Bendis has been known for his writing on such great Marvel Comics as Guardians Of The Galaxy, Iron Man, Avengers, Ultimate Spider-man, Jessica Jones, Uncanny X-Men, All New X-Men, just to name a "few".
