'Flexible' Pakistan allows wife to meet Kulbhushan Jadhav

Pakistan Govt To Arrange Meeting Of Kulbhushan Jadhav With Wife ...

It said that it had informed the Indian High Commission in Pakistan about its decision.

Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav, sentenced to death in Pakistan for alleged spying, will be allowed to meet his wife on "humanitarian grounds", the Pakistan Foreign Office said today.

Friday's statement said Jadhav had "confessed" in a Pakistani court "that he was tasked by RAW to plan, coordinate and organise espionage, terrorist and sabotage activities aimed at destabilizing and waging war against Pakistan".

India had requested a Pakistani visa for Jadhav's mother, Avantika, who wanted to meet her son in Pakistan.

On May 18, the ICJ put a stay on Jadhav's death sentence, saying that Pakistan could not execute the Indian national until the world court further heard the matter and decided whether Islamabad had indeed violated the Vienna Convention on Consular Access.

Pakistan claims its security forces arrested Jadhav from its restive Balochistan province on 3 March previous year after he reportedly entered from Iran.

The ICJ has asked Pakistan to submit its response or memorial by December 13 so that the court can start further proceedings in the case.

In May this year, India moved the International Court of Justice against the death sentence without giving him a fair trial. According to a press release of the ICJ, the President of the ICJ, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations has fixed time limits for the filing of the initial pleadings in the Jadhav case (India vs Pakistan). However, India has always maintained its firm stand that he was kidnaped from Iran wherever he had business interests after retiring from the prestigious Indian Navy.

The statement also said that the memorial is under consideration by a team of lawyers and experts, led by the Attorney General of Pakistan. India had requested Pakistan months ago to grant a visa to his mother on Humanitarian grounds.
