Hours after forces killed two militants in Kashmir, fresh encounters break out

New Delhi, Nov 14:An Army jawan was killed and a policeman left injured during an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. As the troops laid cordon, they came under heavy fire from the militants, triggering off an encounter.

A police official said Bhat was from the volatile Palhalan area.

Sources added that some of the militants managed to escape from the encounter. This resulted in a "brief shootout" in which the militants were killed.

Paying tributes to the slain militants, Hizb chief Salahuddin, in a statement issued from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, said the ongoing struggle would continue till a logical conclusion was reached. The soldier later on succumbed to their injuries. "He was a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen", a police officer said here.

A Railway official said that rail service was suspended due to security reasons in North Kashmir where two local militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed in an encounter with government forces on Monday evening. Railway services were disrupted in Kulgam and Anantnag.

A gunfight was triggered on Tuesday after militants started firing upon security forces who were conducting search operations in a suspected spot.

A hideout of Jaish-e-Muhammad militant outfit was busted in the operation, said the official.
