"Despacito" is also nominated for song of the year - a songwriter's award - along with Mars' "That's What I Like", Jay-Z's "4:44", Logic's "1-800-273-8255" and Julia Michaels' "Issues".

The artist receiving the most nominations was Jay-Z.

Future was also not nominated for any categories, which comes as a surprise to fans, as his "Mask Off" single quickly reached platinum status at the beginning of 2017.

For album of the year, Jay-Z and Lamar face Mars' "24K Magic", Childish Gambino's "Awaken, My Love!" and Lorde's "Melodrama".

The nominations this year all but guarantee that a nonwhite performer will win at least one of the major awards, which would reflect the current pop market but has been far from a given at the Grammys.

Lamar landed seven nominations overall, Mars got six including the top three categories and Childish Gambino, the alter-ego of actor Donald Glover, scored five nominations.

The 60th Grammy Awards will be held on January 28 at New York City's historic Madison Square Garden.

Taylor Swift's "Reputation" album will not be eligible this year due to its November release, but she garnered two nominations including writing country group Little Big Town's "Better Man". We will surely tune in to see who takes home the award for Album of the Year.
