Israeli missiles hit military position near Damascus

An Israeli F-16

The "blatant assault" led to material losses at the site in the countryside around the capital, it said.

But other media outlets reported that the target was a military base that Iran is building in the area, 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the Israeli border, and that loud explosions were heard after the attack.

The spokesperson for the Israeli military declined to comment on reports of the attack.

The message was recorded on Thursday, before the reported Israeli air strike on an Iranian base near al-Qiswa.

This isn't entirely unusual within Israel, as the military censors often compel the media not to report stories.

Hadashot News reported November 26, that Netanyahu had warned Syrian President Bashar Assad via a third party that Israel would intervene against him in the Syrian civil war if he allowed Iran to establish a military presence in the country. In this way, Israeli officials claim that their strikes are counterterror operations as the resistance group is considered a terrorist organization under Israeli law.

SANA, the state news agency, claimed Syrian air defenses shot down two of the Israeli missiles.

Israel has reportedly carried out airstrikes outside the Syrian capital Damascus overnight, according to local sources.

Earlier on September 7, at least two Syrian soldiers were killed while Israeli jets targeted an army position in Hama province, a few days after Syrian army had successfully broke Daesh siege in Dayr al-Zawr.
