Apple releases iOS 11.2 with Apple Pay Cash and a bug fix

iPhone crashing? Widespread iOS date bug wreaks havoc on December 2

In a highly unusual move, Apple released iOS 11.2 early Saturday morning with support for Apple Pay Cash, 7.5-watt wireless charging, and a fix for a date bug that can cause devices to enter a soft reset loop. The bug was reported soon by the officials and the new update was soon released after realizing the issue.

A support document has been released, alongside iOS 11.2 update outlining steps to be taken to fix the issue.

iOS 11.2 also adds Apple Pay Cash, which lets you send money directly to other people. The hallmark feature for US users is Apple Pay for iMessage, but that service reportedly won't go live until at least Monday. It also introduces Apple Pay Cash, faster wireless charging, and various big fixes.

If you have updated to iOS 11.2, you might have noticed that Face ID isn't working on properly on the first reboot.

Major feature of this update is the much awaited person-to-person payment app, Apple Pay Cash.

iPhone crashing? Widespread iOS date bug wreaks havoc on December 2

iOS 11.2 is the seventh update to iOS 11 following iOS 11.0.1, iOS 11.0.2, iOS 11.0.3, iOS 11.1, iOS 11.1.1 and iOS 11.1.2. And I know what you're thinking: it isn't known if the default Reminders app on iOS devices was also to blame. If you do not disable notifications, then your device might restart while the iOS 11.2 update is installing and cause even more problems.

This is an odd one: Not long after midnight on December 2, some iOS 11-powered iPhones started crashing.

The iOS bug is the second big software blunder from Apple this week.

Faced with an onslaught of complaints, Apple responded by issuing a step-by-step guide for affected users to solve the issue. It fixes a nasty bug that causes some iPhones to crash when they receive a notification. "This was really bad", wrote Reddit user KarlKrum. On November 28, a root bug was revealed allowing anyone to access a mac running the latest High Sierra operating system.

In iOS 11, if you tap on the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth icons in Control Center, iOS doesn't disable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
