National Basketball Association suspends Shaun Livingston, disciplines referee Courtney Kirkland for on-court altercation

NBA official Courtney Kirkland Warriors' Shaun Livingston suspended for altercation

The NBA determined Kirkland moved toward Livingston and shared responsibility for the contact made, the league announced.

Shaun Livingston took his frustration too far in Sunday night's game against the Heat in Miami.

The punishment was more severe for Kirkland, who has been removed from the league's officiating rotation without pay for a week.

Livingston will serve his suspension on Monday when the Warriors face the Pelicans in New Orleans.

During the second quarter of Sunday night's game between the Warriors and the Miami Heat, Livingston and Kirkland bumped heads as Livingston was protesting a non-call. After getting tossed from the game, Livingston untucked his white jersey as he walked off the court. Livingston was ejected for just the second time in his 11-year National Basketball Association career. Livingston was given a technical foul and ejected for making contact with the referee. His other ejection happened in Game 4 of the 2016 Western Conference semifinals in Portland after arguing with official Scott Foster. He will be eligible to return to game action on Monday, Dec. 11.

While Livingston did not speak to reporters, Kirkland provided a statement to a pool reporter.

With Livingston out of the lineup, Andre Iguodala and Nick Young could earn time at backup point guard.
