Ben Stokes out cheaply on debut for Canterbury

Watch Ashes no-show Ben Stokes bowled for just two runs on underwhelming return

Hales has been cleared to play again after being cleared of any wrongdoing.

Stokes and Hales have been suspended indefinitely by England's cricket board after being involved in a street brawl in Bristol in late September.

Hales has also been cleared by the European Central Bank to play in the inaugural T10 competition in Dubai, a new competition with 10 overs per side. Doing anything else would have risked potentially prejudicing the outcome of the ongoing police investigation.

The 28-year-old was cautioned by police over his alleged involvement in a fracas that resulted in England all-rounder Ben Stokes getting arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

Christchurch-born Stokes surprisingly joined first-class New Zealand side Canterbury amid uncertainty over his participation in the Ashes series, having not travelled to Australia.

The pair were suspended by the European Central Bank from worldwide cricket until further notice.

Hales, who has not played test cricket since a year ago, is a key member of the England one-day and Twenty20 teams and is now available for the limited-overs part of the Ashes tour which starts in January.

Hales has also been granted a no-objection certificate to allow him to play in the inaugural T10 tournament in Dubai between December 21 and 24.
