Sixers trade Okafor to Nets

Jahlil Okafor is in his third NBA season. More

The Jahlil Okafor-Philadelphia 76ers saga has finally come to an end.

The former third overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft has only played in two games this season, averaging five points and 4.5 rebounds on 44.4 per cent shooting. Okafor has largely been considered a bust and he asked for a contract buyout once the Sixers declined to pick up his option.

His wish was granted on Thursday, as the 76ers have dealt Okafor, guard Nik Stauskas and a second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for veteran forward Trevor Booker, according to multiple reports.

The Sixers were set to play the Los Angeles Lakers and the Nets are in Mexico for a game against Oklahoma City.

"I would like for them to just send me somewhere where I can get an opportunity", Okafor told ESPN in November. He's only played six games this season because of the depth the 76ers have at the guard position. While Embiid was nursing his foot injury, Okafor had a solid rookie year, averaging 17.5 points, seven rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game.

The asking price for Okafor had dropped severely since last season, so the Sixers snagging Booker in this deal could be viewed as a steal.

Brooklyn has been trying to stockpile young talent due to the lack of draft picks they've had over the last few years, acquiring their starting backcourt of D'Angelo Russell and Allen Crabbe via trades this offseason.
