Harvey Weinstein's Alleged Demands On Salma Hayek For Frida Are Sickening

Hayek says rebuffing Weinstein led to nightmare on ‘Frida

Hayek wrote that Weinstein was threatening to shut down the production of "Frida" and that he pressured her into doing a sex scene with another woman in the film.

In an emotional op-ed for the New York Times, Hayek takes readers through the often painful experience of bringing her passion project, "Frida", to the big screen during Weinstein's heyday at Miramax.

Hayek, who regularly starred in films released by Weinstein's Miramax in the 1990s, credited Weinstein with helping her start her career.

"No to me taking a shower with him", Hayek wrote.

"I was so excited to work with him and that company".

"I ran into him at an event, he pulled me aside and told me he had stopped smoking and he had had a heart attack".

The actresses did end up shooting the scene, which ended with Hayek in tears and vomiting, "not because I would be naked with another woman".

Hayek said during the filming of "Frida", Weinstein openly criticised Fridas unibrow and berated her for her own performance in front of her cast members on many occasions.

In a New York Times opinion column, the actress gave a detailed account of her history with Weinstein, his insistent and allegedly inappropriate demands and being "approached by reporters, through different sources, including my dear friend Ashley Judd, to speak about an episode in my life that, although painful, I thought I had made peace with".

More than 50 women have claimed that Weinstein sexually harassed or assaulted them over the past three decades.

The Mexican-born actress said she was forced to constantly reject Weinstein's advances, claiming he bullied her into altering the film drastically and made her doubt her talent as an actress by telling her she was only valuable because of her sex appeal. "No to my getting naked with another woman".

"Why do so many of us, as female artists, have to go to war to tell our stories when we have so much to offer? He had said yes", Hayek said, before adding, "Little did I know it would become my turn to say no". According to Hayek, he asked her to watch him shower, to shower with him, to let him give her a massage, and to let him give her oral sex.

In a statement on Wednesday, Weinstein's spokesperson denied the allegations. The actress wrote that she was miraculously able to comply with the demands, but then Weinstein demanded that the film include a lesbian sex scene. Over 80 women have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, with several alleging rape.

Representatives for Weinstein have not yet responded to Vanity Fair's request for comment.

"And with every refusal came Harvey's Machiavellian rage".

François-Henri Pinault, Salma Hayek and Harvey Weinstein attend the Vanity Fair and Gucci Party Honoring Martin Scorsese during the 63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival at the Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc, May 15, 2010 in Cannes, France. On Sicario, actress Emily Blunt was supposed to be topless in one scene, but she refused because, as she said in an interview with Howard Stern, "We didn't agree with it" (clarifying that "we" referred to her and her breasts). There was one night, Hayek claims, when Weinstein called her in the middle of the night demanding she fire her agent.

"Hayek hopes that things continue to change for the better for women, and feels grateful that the voices of the abused are finally being heard".
