Vladimir Putin thanks President Trump to help CIA in stop terrorist attacks

Putin expressed gratitude during the call for information provided by the CIA that allowed Russia's top domestic security agency to track down and arrest a group of suspects that was planning to bomb Kazan Cathedral and other crowded sites, the Kremlin said.

While information on the suspects was not released, the Russian Federal Security Service announced on Friday that it arrested an ISIS-linked terror cell.

The White House has confirmed that the Russian president called his USA counterpart on Sunday after the CIA supplied intelligence which allowed Russia's security services (FSB) to break up a "terror cell" planning an attack on Russia's second biggest city.

The cell was planning to carry out a suicide attack at a religious institution and kill citizens on Saturday, . "Based on the information the United States provided, Russian authorities were able to capture the terrorists just prior to an attack that could have killed large numbers of people".

Among the targets was the city's famous Kazansky Cathedral, a popular tourist site. The White House said Trump thanked Putin for remarks he made "acknowledging America's strong economic performance".

The leaders' relationship is complicated by ongoing investigations into the Trump campaign's ties to Moscow.

This is the second time in less than a week that two of the world's most powerful leaders have exchanged messages of praise.

"Vladimir Putin assured Donald Trump that the Russian intelligence services upon receipt of information relating to terrorist threats against the United States and its citizens, will immediately transmit to its American colleagues in partner channels", the statement added.

While Mr Trump categorically denies colluding with Russian Federation, .

On Thursday, it was Trump who called Putin, thanking the Russian president for his praise of Trump's handling of the US economy.

Returning militants from Syria pose a real threat to Russian Federation, the head of the FSB was quoted as saying on Tuesday.

Russian police detained several suspects in that attack from mainly Muslim states in ex-Soviet central Asia.
