Facebook has new tools to prevent unwanted friend requests and messages

It will disable notifications from that user and move the conversion to Filtered Messages folder.

That's why Facebook is rolling out new features meant to make it more hard for harassers to maintain contact with the people they target after they have been blocked. These features have been developed based on feedback from users, most primarily women and journalists.

On Tuesday, the Menlo Park tech firm introduced new tools to prevent unwanted friend requests and messages. He added, "To help prevent those bad encounters, we are building on existing features that prevent fake and inauthentic accounts on Facebook". To stop this kind of harassment or intimidation, Facebook is trying to develop a new feature with which one can get rid of continuous and unwilling friend requests and messages.

Using information such as a person's Internet Protocol (IP) address, Facebook said the company can recognize if a blocked user creates another account.

Let's say you block someone and then that person decides to create another account so they can contact you.

Oftentimes, says Antigone Davis, Facebook's head of safety, people don't want to block their harassers for fear of retribution. Because Facebook is using signals, like IP addresses, for this objective in order to recognize if someone has created a fake account. You can read the messages without letting the sender know that you have read the message.

Another new tool will let you automatically ignore messages from a contact on the chat app Facebook Messenger, without actually blocking that person. Right now the feature is available only for one-on-one conversations, but Facebook said it will soon be available for group conversations too. The company is also working with more than 150 safety experts in different countries including India, Ireland, Kenya, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, Sweden and the U.S. to get feedback to improve the safety of the platform.
