FDNY: 4 People Killed, 10 Others Hurt in Brooklyn House Fire

Mother and 3 Kids Dead in Brooklyn Fire 18122017

The fire was reported at about 2:30 AM early Monday morning, when parents Yosef and Aliza Azan, their six children and nephew were asleep in the house.

Five firefighters also were injured while battling the blaze.

A 40-year-old woman, an 11-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl died in the fire, according to cops.

Knowing there was a family inside, the firefighters rushed in, but found the mother and three children already dead on the second floor of the three-floor home.

It's unclear what started the blaze.

Officials say one man managed to escape with four teenagers.

The father, a 16-year-old female, and a 15-year-old male were taken to Staten Island University Hospital in critical condition while two other boys, 13- and 12-years-old, were transported to Maimonides Hospital with minor injuries, according to the Post.

Two firefighters were among the injured, but they are expected to recover.

. New York Fire Department Commissioner Daniel Nigro told a news conference that although firefighters arrived at the scene in less than three minutes after receiving a call from a neighbor, the house was already engulfed in flames.

The Azans and Sassoons knew each other, according to Yeshiva World news, some of their children having studied together at the Ateret Torah Yeshiva. According to the Times, the FDNY says that the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
