Amazon may be working on a YouTube rival called AmazonTube

Is Amazon preparing OpenTube to compete with Google's YouTube as companies spar?

Amazon later reintroduced YouTube to the device, but the voice commands it added violated the use terms and on Tuesday Google again removed the service.

Another bone of contention between Google and Amazon is the latter's reluctance to comply with cast technology, the same that powers Google's Chromecast devices. A few weeks ago Google pulled their YouTube app from Amazon's Echo Show with no warning and now has announced plans to pull their app from the Fire TV.

In its "AmazonTube" trademark application, Amazon details a software streaming application that sounds pretty much identical to YouTube. The company needs a video hosting service for its products and if it can't get it via YouTube, it might just create its own. Such works could include, according to the filings, photos, videos, text, images, documents, or books. That would probably land them in more trouble with Google. But Amazon might be one of the only companies who can pose a threat to Google's streaming behemoth. However, this version will not be available on Amazon services. Hundreds of thousands of major sites and services, including Netflix, Giphy, Slack, and Airbnb rely on Amazon Web Services, Amazon's cloud computing platform, for server capacity.

Will Amazon Tube, if it ever exists, be yet another self-promotion thinly disguised as a social network?

The ongoing battle between Google and Amazon over the online streaming space seems to be far from over.

Given the "social media" specification in its filing, this service looking more similar to Spark.

Mark Mayo, Senior Vice President of Firefox, said: "Bringing Firefox to Fire TV is an exciting new way to reach our users and serve up more of the full web to everyone".

A chance to promote its content, slight Google, and keep customers hooked on the Fire TV?

The chances of Amazon directly challenging Google with its own "non-downloadable pre-recorded audio, visual and audiovisual works via wireless networks on a variety of topics of general interest" would be something of a leap.
