Mary Horomanski checked her online account this month and found she owed $284 billion to the electric company-a fortune worth more than the national debts of Hungary and South Africa combined, the Erie Times-News reported.

"My eyes just about popped out of my head", she told the paper.

Horomanski contacted the Erie Times-News to let them know about the shock bill. She wondered if her family had put up the Christmas lights incorrectly. Not even Clark Griswold could rack up such a bill with Christmas lights, so it was obviously a mistake.

The bill stated she had until November 2018 to pay all of the money; her minimum payment for December was over $28,000. She told her son to give her a heart beat monitor as a Christmas present.

That's a pretty big difference.

Can you imagine thinking your electric bill is $284 billion? Her new amount was quickly corrected to $284.46. "I can't recall ever seeing a bill for billions of dollars", Mark Durbin, a spokesman for Penelec's parent company First Energy said.

"We appreciate the customer's willingness to reach out to us about the mistake", Durbin continued.

The woman was rather amused about the ordeal and cracked a joke to her son about what she now wanted for the holiday season. "I opened it up and there it was", she told the Washington Post.
