Himachal Pradesh lawmaker Asha Kumari slaps police constable, receives a slap in return

Congress MLA Asha Kumari slapped a woman constable in Shimla, reacting sharply to it the latter returned her a tight slap too.

Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and party legislator from Dalhouise Asha Kumari was booked for hurting a woman cop publicly as the legislator was trying to enter Congress head office Rajeev Bhavan here on Friday to attend party review meeting without showing the entry pass.

A bystander recorded the video of the incident in which Kumari can be seen slapping the lady constable and then being slapped back. Congress President Rahul Gandhi disapproved the MLA's action of slapping the woman police constable on duty.

Superintendent of Police, Shimla, Soumya Sambasivan said a case has been registered against Asha Kumari, on a complaint by the constable concerned, under sections 353 and 332 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). No one has a right to raise hand against someone, at least not the Congress culture. Another legislator and former Cabinet Minister Mukesh Agnihotri was also accompanying Asha Kumari. "The lady constable misbehaved with me, abused me and nearly beat me up, but I should not have lost my calm". The review meet headed by Rahul Gandhi was called in to discuss the reasons for the defeat in the state.

Assembly elections in the hill state were held in single phase on November 9. BJP had won 44 seats in the elections.
