Israel approves more than 1100 new West Bank settlement homes, says NGO

Israeli father of 6, MDA volunteer medic killed in drive-by shooting terror attack near Nablus

Two Palestinian youths were shot dead Thursday at least three more were injured as clashes flared along the Israel-Gaza border and in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian health ministry in Gaza. At least one terrorist had opened fire on his auto from a moving vehicle near the Jewish community of Havat Gilad in northern Samaria.

The IDF conducted searches in the area of Nablus and closed off several Palestinian villages amid efforts to track down the terrorists behind the attack.

"We stress the commitment of the Palestinian people to the prisoners and families of the prisoners".

The isolated community of a few hundred Israelis is located deep inside the West Bank.

The closure was seemingly enforced in response to a shooting attack on Tuesday night in the area that resulted in the death of an Israeli settler.

Sporadic unrest has occurred since US President Donald Trump provoked Palestinian anger by recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital on December 6.

The Israeli military set up roadblocks, cordoned off Palestinian villages and deployed reinforcements to the West Bank on Wednesday, a day after an Israeli settler was killed in a drive-by shooting by suspected Palestinian gunmen. One Israeli has been killed in a Palestinian attack.

The Peace Now group said a meeting on Wednesday by a planning committee of Israel's military-run Civil Administration for the West Bank also moved plans for 770 other settler homes to more advanced stages.

Meanwhile, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister, Tzipi Hotovely, responded to Ambassador Friedman's tweet, thanking the United States for standing with Israel and for trying to bring an end to the Palestinian Authority's sponsorship of terrorism.

For Palestinians, such payments are a key source of income for families who have in many cases lost their main breadwinner.

Israel's defence ministry claimed the Palestinian Authority had paid out 1.2 billion shekels (USD 350 million), or seven per cent of the PA's annual budget, in 2017 as part of the policy. Overall, the PA's payments to terrorists and their families now total about $300 million annually. Those who committed more severe crimes and are sentenced to 20 or more years in prison are paid five times that every month for the rest of their lives.
