Marvel's Standalone 'Black Widow' Movie Gains Momentum With Jac Schaeffer Writing

Marvel Black Widow movie gets writer in latest move toward greenlight

Forget the Avengers for now: Black Widow might finally be getting her own movie, and there's no assembling required.

Jac Schaeffer, who wrote and directed 2009's TiMER, has been hired to work on the script. Anne Hathaway was attracted to that one, and soon chose Schaeffer to pen a female-centric update of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels titled Nasty Women (Hathaway and Rebel Wilson are set to star). The movie is still in early development and it doesn't have a green light, but naming the writer is the closest the studio has gotten to making the film. She also suggested that the movie could focus on what Black Widow does when she's not with the team.

Over the years, there's been a lot of talk about the possibility of a Black Widow movie. It's criminal. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has mentioned focusing on Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow repeatedly over the years, saying in 2016 that "I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow..."

Though Black Widow has been a popular comic-book character for years, Johansson first took on the big-screen role in 2010's Iron Man 2, which starred Robert Downey Jr.

Schaeffer is known for her Black List script The Shower, which is a comedy about an alien invasion during a baby shower. We think Scarlett Johansson's portrayal of her is awesome.

Scarlett Johansson will be back in action as Natasha Romanoff on May 4 for "Avengers: Infinity War", and also return for "Avengers 4" on May 3, 2019.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) graduated from their solo franchises to the team-up - and were joined by two other heroes introduced along the way: Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Johansson).

She explained: "It's very surreal for me to watch these new cast members come in and get their feet wet and breath new life into these characters who are so iconic". Sure, you could say that we're geeks, but we prefer the term 'Super Geeks.' Thanks to this obsession, we've watched all of the Marvel movies at least 156 times, and we know all of the characters inside and out.
