Girl should be allowed to take medical marijuana at school: suit

Illinois' medical cannabis law prohibits possessing or using marijuana on school grounds or buses.

Her parents had tried everything to help their 11-year-old daughter. A lawyer for the school district says she's satisfied with the attorney general's promise, but would like to see a permanent change to marijuana laws in IL.

The girl, referred to as A.S.in court documents, now wears a medical marijuana patch on her foot.

Ashley has been attending school off and on depending on her condition but likely won't be able to continue without her medication, which would be in conflict with a state law requiring children to go to school, said her attorney, Steve Glink.

Medical marijuana is legal in 29 states, but- New Jersey, Maine, and Colorado - say schools must allow students to use their legal prescriptions in school. The state of IL prohibits the use of medical marijuana on public school property.

Although she is now leukemia-free, her doctors have certified her to use medicinal marijuana to treat her seizures. "Our firm represents over a hundred school districts in IL and the ramifications of this today will be felt throughout the state", said Darcy Kriha, attorney for School District 54. Her parents spent several years using "traditional" medications to deal with her seizure disorder but nothing worked, according to a federal lawsuit.

Trump lawyer paid ex-adult film star
Drake said Trump also repeatedly propositioned her, offering $10,000 and the use of his private jet for her to come to his suite. The attorney for Daniels sent a full statement written by her in which she denied having an affair with Trump .

"The school would like to see a legislative change so that not just Ashley could benefit from this today, but other students can", said school district attorney Darcy Kriha.

Now, thanks to the federal judge ruling and an agreement by the Illinois Attorney General not to prosecute, Ashley is expected to be back in school with the ability for staff to administer the medicine effect free.

At least one other state has addressed the issue legislatively. Late past year, a physician prescribed a ketogenic (high fat, low carbohydrate) diet and medical marijuana for Ashley - what her parents say is proving to be a "golden cure".

In 2016, in a bipartisan vote, lawmakers mandated that schools allow parents or caregivers to give qualified students medical marijuana. The law prohibits smoking the drug in school, but allows patches or tinctures, as long as it's not disruptive to classrooms.

He said two doctors must approve medical marijuana for kids under 18, so that medical professionals ultimately decide who qualifies, not lawmakers. "It's to keep them alive and healthy". The cannabis, combined with a special diet, are helping Ashley lead a better life, according to her mother.
