Faster websites will soon get priority on Google Search results on mobile

Google Will Again Prioritize Faster Sites in Mobile Search

Google calls this the "Speed Update", which is not a terribly imaginative name if we're being honest.

Google has been pushing faster websites in Search for a long while now.

In July 2018, Google will begin considering page speed when ranking mobile search results.

Google said the update applies the same standard to all pages, regardless of the technology used for developing them. Although speed has been used in ranking for some time, that signal was focused on desktop searches not mobile. In addition, some slower pages may still rank highly in search, if the page has relevant content. At the moment, it's not yet clear if the same algorithm change will be adapted to desktop users as well. Through the update, the company looks to encourage developers to "think broadly" about how performance affects a user's experience of their page and consider using a variety of user experience metrics. There is no tool that directly indicates whether a page is affected by this new ranking factor.

One of them is the Chrome User Experience Report, which contains user experience metrics collected from Chrome users on various popular web destinations. The Chrome User Experience Data? Considering that Google is unrivaled in its power to control how web users find internet content, any change to its method of ranking search results is a key concern for mobile advertisers and publishers.

Now no tool is available that lets website owners figure out if their site will be negatively impacted by the new mobile search ranking factor, the two engineers said.
