IOS Software Update Prevents Older iPhones from Slowing Down

Messages on iOS macOS crash when receiving this link

The update is expected in the coming months, and will roll out first to developers.

Apple will release a test version of its iOS software next month that shows users the health of their batteries and will let them turn off a phone-slowing feature meant to prevent sudden shutdowns in iPhones with older batteries, Cook said in an interview with ABC News on Wednesday.

Cook says the update will also give notifications to users before it starts throttling phone performance due to weak battery health.

The solution for many iPhone users who didn't know about Apple's practice was to buy a new iPhone - rather than replace their battery for much less.

After Apple was forced to apologize for intentionally slowing down the performance of older iPhones, the company's CEO is now saying customers will soon have the choice to stop battery throttling for good. This tool has been reported to have support for iPhone 5S, iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad Pro, and iPod Touch 6.

Lebanon's Anti-Israel Blacklist Will Keep Spielberg Film Out of its Theaters
The film has been refused a release because it breaches a boycott Israel directive maintained by the Lebanese government. Lebanon is a nominal democracy, with greater human rights and press freedoms than many other Arab states.

Apple keeps a famously tight grip over its software, but was forced to be more transparent than normal after some iPhone owners noticed late a year ago that their phones became noticeably faster with a new battery. Currently, iOS will warn users if their battery is substantially decayed, but will not notify them of partial aging - even if that aging is severe enough to warrant the slowdown. Within days, Apple faced lawsuits over the phone slowing.

Some tech analysts and users alleged Apple was slowing down phones as a way to encourage people to buy new phones. He later added, "Maybe we should have been clearer, as well".

"We will tell somebody 'We're reducing your performance by some amount in order to not have an unexpected restart, '" Cook said.

As part of its attempt to minimize the backlash against its battery strategy, Apple has also cut the price of battery replacements from $79 to $29. Speaking to ABC NEWS, Apple's Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook revealed that Apple will embark on something which "hasn't been done before".

Those with the update will have an option to chose whether they want their iPhone's performance to be throttled when its battery degrades to a certain point.
