Ricky Gervais Says Tide Pods Are for Bathing, Not Eating!!!

Tide pod challenge

In recent days, the "Tide Pod Challenge" has gone viral, with teenagers trying to eat pods meant to clean laundry.

Tide had to hastily shoot and upload a video where The Gronk of the New England Patriots tells the world not to eat the pods.

There's some more context here.

YouTube, which is owned by Google, says it's taking down clips that show people taking bites of the pods.

A company spokesperson told CNNMoney that "we don't allow the promotion of self-injury and will remove it when we're made aware of it".

The challenge, which has become a fixture on social media platforms in recent weeks, involves teenagers challenging each other to film themselves eating a Tide pod.

"They can block the airway, produce suffocation if they are swallowed, they can burn the esophagus and the stomach they can even eat in hole in the esophagus or the stomach", Meggs added.

Besides, if you eat one and post it to YouTube, your video will be taken down and you'll basically just poison yourself for nothing.

What should Tide PODs be used for? "DOING LAUNDRY. Nothing else". "They should only be used to clean clothes and kept up, closed and away from children".

Before all that though, kids were accidentally eating the pods, prompting the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue a warning to parents in 2013 about the liquid laundry detergent packets. The unsafe stunt of ingesting liquid detergent, mostly by teenagers, went viral on social media.

The same year, almost 220 teens were reportedly exposed, and about 25 per cent of those cases were intentional, according to data from the American Association of Poison Control Centers.

Patterson said they sold more than 50 of the Tide Pod donuts Wednesday, the only day they were selling them.

According to AAPCC data, in 2016 and 2017, poison control centers handled 39 and 53 cases of intentional exposures, respectively, among 13 to 19-year olds.

Eating detergent packets can bring about an assortment of health complications, both minor and severe.
