Ohio State's Ryan Day considering Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator job

Titans Announce First Interviews For New Head Coach

Mike Vrabel is the new head coach of the Tennessee Titans and while I have my doubts about the hire, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt (he deserves that much - as does any first time head coach).

While previous head coach Mike Mularkey was a great leader, he often struggled with the latter half of that description.

"Everything we do is going to be geared towards winning and being physical", Vrabel said. He then moved to the Houston Texans in the National Football League, where we worked as the linebackers coach from 2014-2016.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson couldn't have been more clear Monday in the post-Mike Mularkey firing news conference as he talked about how important it was for the head coach, general manager and ownership to be aligned in vision, philosophy, everything.

Bill O'Brien will have to get used to seeing Mike Vrabel on the opposing sideline twice a year. In 2011, he joined the staff at his alma mater, Ohio State, coaching linebackers and defensive linemen. LaFleur was the quarterbacks coach with Atlanta in 2015 and 2016, the year Matt Ryan was named NFL MVP and offensive player of the year.

Teams were trying to lure him away last season to run their defenses, but Vrabel remained.

Vrabel went to Houston in 2014 and coached linebackers with the Texans for three seasons before becoming coordinator. Fichtner, 54, last called plays while serving as offensive coordinator at Memphis from 2001-06. Arizona, Detroit and New York Giants have yet to hire new coaches.

Vrabel had 57 sacks, 19 forced fumbles, 40 passes defended and 11 interceptions in his 14 year career in the NFL. "We want to prepare our players so they know what to do, which will allow them to play fast and aggressive". After one year as a coordinator, Vrabel has now landed his first head-coaching gig.

Vrabel takes over a team that has finished 9-7 the past two seasons and made it to the Divisional Round of the playoffs this season.

That's how a coordinator from a 4-12 team wound up as the Titans' head coach just weeks after the season ended.
