Sundance: Ruth Bader Ginsburg likes Kate McKinnon's 'SNL' impression and supports #MeToo

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg arrives at Sundance's Cinema Cafe prior to being interviewed by NPR's Nina Totenberg in connection with the documentary

"I think it's about time", she told NPR host Nina Totenberg at the Sundance Film Festival.

Ginsburg, clutching her microphone with both hands, said she grasped the seriousness of the abusive power collegiate men could have over women during her undergraduate studies at Cornell University in the 1950s. "For so long, women were silent".

Ginsburg, who was appointed to the court in 1993 when she was 60, is now the oldest Supreme Court justice.

"Every woman of my vintage knows about sexual harassment, but we didn't have a name for it". When it came time to take the test the next day, she realized the professor hadn't given her a "practice exam" - he'd given the actual exam in advance. He offered her a practice exam. "I knew exactly what he wanted in return", Ginsburg said. "That's just one of many examples".

Back then, the set of available options for women on the receiving end of sexual harassment was limited. Asked what she'd done about the incident, Bader Ginsburg confronted the professor in his office saying, "How dare you?

But I had a 4-year-old child", Ginsburg said. When asked if she is expecting a backlash against the campaign, she said that time will tell what happens.

"I deliberately made two mistakes", Ginsburg replied, laughing.

Ginsburg plainly is reveling in her current life as a cultural icon, who is known to her younger admirers as "the Notorious RBG".

Ginsburg supported the #MeToo movement in the interview.

Despite justices' presumed objectivity, Ginsburg has voiced her dislike of President Donald Trump, controversially calling him "a faker" who has "no consistency" in July 2016.

Ginsburg also recounted the story of when Columbia Law School issued layoff notices to 25 women in the maintenance department but didn't lay off any men.

"I liked the actress who portrayed me (Kate McKinnon) and I would like to say "Gins-burn" sometimes to my colleagues".

If only we knew the context in which she pulled out the 'Ginsburged'.

She has law clerks on staff through the court's 2020 term.

At one point in the film, West and Cohen sit Ginsburg down to watch clips of McKinnon, so she can judge her impression.

On Sunday, Ginsburg said, "As long as I can do the job full steam, I will be here".
