Towns, Porzingis added to all-star game

6:59PlayInside The NBA's experts breakdown the Western Conference All Star starters

All-Star team rosters will be unveiled on Thursday.

Lowry earned his fourth straight All-Star nod, teaming with DeRozan in the backcourt for a Raptors team with a revamped offense that is just two games behind the Celtics in the Eastern Conference standings. Unlike the starters, which are selected from a mix of fans, media, and player votes, the reserves are purely based on the votes by the league's 30 head coaches.

Under the new All-Star Game format that replaces the traditional matchup between conferences, Curry and LeBron James - the All-Star starter from each conference who received the most fan votes in his conference - will serve as team captains and draft the team rosters from the pool of players voted starters and reserves.

New York Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis and Minnesota Timberwolves centre Karl-Anthony Towns have been named to their first all-star game as part of a group of 14 reserves chosen Tuesday. As of now, Curry and Durant are the only two Warriors who have been selected to play, as each were voted in as starters.

The starters were selected by a combination of votes from fans (50 per cent), National Basketball Association players (25 per cent) and media members (25 per cent). He is averaging 23.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 0.8 steals per game.

The 14 reserves - seven from each conference - announced on TNT's Inside the National Basketball Association round out the player pool (with 24 players in all) for LeBron James and Stephen Curry to choose from.

While some of these reserves may feel like they should've been starting, all that matters is that they're an All-Star.

Golden State is the first team to have a record-tying four all-stars in consecutive years.

James and Curry will make their picks through a conference call with National Basketball Association officials on Thursday, and the teams will be revealed on the same day. It is the third-year player's first All-Star selection.

Unsurprisingly, all four of Golden State's all-stars made it to the game.
