Snapchat will now let users share stories outside its mobile app

Snapchat update lets you share Stories with people who don't even use the app – here's how to use it

When you share a story, you'll get a link that you can share anywhere you'd like.

To share content, users tap and hold tiles in Discover.

Snapchat users will soon be able to share Stories outside the app to Facebook and Twitter in an effort to spark growth on the social media app. It does not include Publisher Stories or Shows, for now. Over time, the format will become more widely available.

The popular photo-sharing app is testing out a new feature that alerts the person you're screenshotting that you not-so-subtly just creeped on their story.

Most interesting thing about the new feature is that it will help you figure out who is stalking you and being creepy about it. Our Stories, which are videos that feature Snaps from multiple users, and Search Stories, which are curated for users based on their interests and location, will last for 30 days. Media companies, for example, could use embeddable Stories to share Snapchat's exclusive footage from breaking news events, which is one of Snap's big bets.

Crucially the sharing element only applies to Stories which are high-profile or publicly viewable.

Official Stories will be available outside of Snapchat for 24 hours. They can simply view the Story you shared through a new Story player on the company's official website.

All you have to do is swipe left on the camera screen, and go into the new Discover screen.

The company's third quarter results revealed that its global daily active users was lower than what analysts had predicted (178 million). A born-and-raised Angeleno who graduated from New York University, he now lives in Los Angeles. He has broken stories on Snapchat's ad plans, Hulu founding CEO Jason Kilar's attempt to take on YouTube and the assemblage of Amazon's ad-tech stack; analyzed YouTube's programming strategy, Facebook's ad-tech ambitions and ad blocking's rise; and documented digital video's biggest annual event VidCon, BuzzFeed's branded video production process and Snapchat Discover's ad load six months after launch.
