Special Counsel's Office Questions Attorney General Jeff Sessions

United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions was interviewed as part of Robert Mueller's investigation the Justice Department has confirmed

CIA Director Mike Pompeo has been interviewed in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into President Donald Trump's campaign's ties to Russia, NBC News reported Wednesday.

Sessions was questioned for several hours, the New York Times first reported.

Mr. Mueller is leading an independent investigation into intelligence community allegations that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 US presidential election that brought Mr. Trump to power just over a year ago, along with alleged collusion.

The Mueller team is also looking at is Trump's abrupt firing of Comey in May and whether this was meant to thwart the Russian Federation investigation - which could amount to obstruction of justice.

The US intelligence community has already concluded that Moscow tried to sway the presidential election in favour of Trump, though Russian Federation denies that.

Speaking to reporters, Trump says "We're going to find out" if he gets a fair shake from Robert Mueller. He recused himself from all matters related to this investigation in March 2017.

There are actually multiple ongoing investigations into Russia's election meddling and possible collusion with Trump associates.

One of Trump's former campaign managers, Corey Lewandowski, confirmed he was called to testify in the probe on January 15.

The White House originally attributed Mr Trump's decision to fire Mr Comey as a result of the former FBI director's handling of an investigation into Hillary Clinton.

Sessions' attorney, Chuck Cooper, who reportedly accompanied the attorney general to the interview, said he had comment on the matter. He said he was "looking forward" to it, subject to the advice of his lawyers.

Speaking to the reporters outside White House before leaving for the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, the commander-in-chief said he was open to testify to Mueller's team, which is now conducting a probe into Trump campaign's ties to Russian operatives.

Mr Papadopoulos has pleaded guilty to making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about those contacts.

And didn't he say he didn't think his testimony was necessary?

Sessions was in charge of Trump's foreign policy team during the 2016 election, and helped formulate the president's policy towards the country.

Mr Trump has insisted there was "absolutely no collusion" between his team and Russian Federation during the 2016 election campaign.
