Akufo-Addo leaves to attend 30th AU summit

Commission chairman Moussa Faki Mahmat

This follows the declaration made at the 29th Assembly of the Heads of State and Government in January 2017, where the AU would launch 2018 as the African Anti-Corruption Year.

The President, who was engaged by AU at the last session to present a road-map on anti-corruption in Africa, would speak on "Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa's Transformation". If there is a topic that is being discussed a lot in Angola is the fight against corruption.

"Morocco has a very important role in the areas of peace and security, trade promotion and infrastructure development in the continent", said Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama on the sidelines of the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU).

"What that tells you is that the whole continent is looking at the good work that our President is doing, pushing back and fighting corruption effectively and the rest of the continent will say let's look at what Nigeria is doing and wants to share the Nigerian experience".

In the coming year, I look forward to building on relationships established during the African Leaders' Lunch during the United Nations General Assembly, the Africa Ministerial in Washington, and engagements of Ambassador Nikki Haley, Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, and my Ambassadors throughout the continent. It seems that Rwandan President Paul Kagame will come after President of Guinea Conakry Alpha Conde as a chairman of the union, and observers expect that reforms will be launched during his term.

"Although the AU has appointed and mandated Champions for a number of concurrent matters of interest to the continent, this is the first the problem of corruption is getting this sort of attention".

"We are looking forward to perhaps one of the busiest summit ever in the African Union".

The endorsement was in recognition of his personal commitment and widely acclaimed anti-graft drive at the domestic level.

The chairman of the African Union Commission said Thursday that the continent's leaders can not stay silent after U.S. President Donald Trump's alleged vulgar remarks about African countries and Haiti.

He is accompanied by several Cabinet ministers.
