PADMAAVAT PROTESTS: Haryana DGP warns of 'strict action' against miscreants, 31 arrested

Thousands of Karni Sena and other outfits upset with the portrayal of Rani Padmaavati or Padmini in the film lodged their protest against director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Vijender, the conductor of the attacked school bus in Gurugram on Wednesday, says they tried to navigate through the clashes between protestors and the police but got caught in the violence.

Party spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi also accused the saffron party of trying to play politics on the issue, alleging that it had failed to maintain law and order in the states ruled by it.

Clubs and bars in Gurugram have been ordered to be closed from 7 pm on Wednesday till further order in the light of protests and actions is taken against the defaulters. Those arrested were allegedly part of the mob that pelted stones on the bus which carried school children. As many as 31 persons have been arrested in connection with yesterday's (Wednesday's) incident of violence at some places. "He said he planned to throw the red power, suspected to be some chemical, on the cinema screen after mixing it with water to prevent the movie's screening", a senior police officer told IANS.

Gurugram Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said the force was ready to tackle all situations.

He, however, clarified that no order has been passed to close schools, colleges, bars.

If any person is found guilty of violating the order, he will be liable to be punished under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Singh said. Around 550 more policemen have been deployed to ensure smooth traffic and law and order in the city.

The Congress President also condemned the violence against children by the mobs which have been protesting the release of the controversial film.

On the release day of Padmaavat, almost 31 people were detained by cops for their alleged involvement in violent protests against the movie.
