Harry Kane was the saviour for Tottenham Hotspur as his late goal against League Two side Newport County forced a 1-1 away draw and a replay in their fourth round Emirates FA Cup tie on Saturday.
Harry Kane saved Spurs' blushes with an 82nd minute victor, his 12th goal in seven games, but it's still a huge victory for Newport as they'll get a trip to Wembley.
Pochettino was unimpressed that Spurs took so long to rouse themselves against their fired-up Welsh opponents who deservedly led this match through a 38th-minute goal from Irish striker Padraig Amond.
There are 72 places separating the sides but it was the League Two side who took a deserved lead on the 38th minute when Amond headed home from close range at the back post from Scott Bennett's delightful cross.
The France global has been the subject of plenty of criticism from Spurs fans on social media and he was unable to change the opinions of many during their match in Wales.
Former West Ham forward Frank Nouble - the only Newport player with Premier League experience - missed a great chance to open the scoring after just four minutes, only for the forward to blaze horribly over the bar with just Michel Vorm to beat. You can't say they don't deserve it - they have been the better side in the first half.
Fortunate Spurs earn a replay: Pochettino experimented with a 3-5-2 formation, with Fernando Llorente and Kane leading the line, but it backfired on the Spurs boss and the visitors didn't even manage to muster a shot on target in the first half. In the 67th minute, Heung-Min Son nearly made it 1-1.
Spurs were now dominating possession but clear-cut chances were hard to come by with the Newport defence standing firm and Kane's assured touch for once letting him down. The England striker scored from a corner in the 88th minute. The team didn't really show that they wanted to go through to the next round. It was half cleared as it fell to Robbie Willmott on the corner of the box.
"I'm a little bit relieved - well a lot", he told reporters at his post-match presser. Moving to the London club was seen as the player's "imminent destiny". "We'll see what happens in the next few days". "We can not use the pitch as an excuse, we need to look at us".
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino named a strong side for the trip to Wales, with Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier and Kane all starting at Rodney Parade. "I hope we have learned today that we have to fight to win things".
