TL;DR: Pakistan sign off with T20 series win

Michael Bradley—AFP

Batting first, Green Shirts fired in unison to rattle up a challenging 181 for six against New Zealand in third and final of T20 worldwide (T20I) match on Sunday at Bay Oval here.

Pakistan (124 points) had entered the series trailing number-one ranked New Zealand (126 points) by two points and with the series-win, they toppled the Kiwis.

Pakistan thus levelled the series 1-1 after the hosts won the first match by seven wickets at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

However, they fought back in the second match to win by 48 runs and then eventually took the series. In the deciding T20I at Mount Maunganui, Sarfraz Ahmed said Pakistan wanted to maintain the template of the previous game, and start off well.

Opener Fakhar Zaman made 46 off 36 at the top of the innings, leading Pakistan to series victory as the team laid claim to being the best Twenty20 side in the world.

Following his dismissal, Haris Sohail, skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and Umar Amin helped the team putting up a competitive 181 runs on board. Meanwhile, Trent Boult and Colin de Grandhomme scalped one each.

In response, New Zealand were bowled out for 153 runs in 18.3 overs as a result of some disciplined bowling from medium-pacer Faheem Ashraf (3/22), pacer Mohammad Amir (2/28) and spinner Shadab Khan (2/37).

Ross Taylor (24) and Santner (24*) also chipped in with their cameos but Pakistan were not to be denied a much-needed victory.

Shadab Khan picked up two wickets for Pakistan.
