FBI Deputy Director McCabe Quits Early

White House Pretends Donald Trump Doesn't Tweet, Insists POTUS Not Part Of Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe Exit

He will remain on leave with the top USA domestic law enforcement agency until his retirement date, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity because a public announcement has not yet been made.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders pushed back against suggestions that President Trump had anything to do with McCabe's ouster.

McCabe, who assumed his position as deputy director in 2016 and had planned to retire this spring, has come under fire from the United States president in recent weeks.

Both were also involved in the initial stages of an ongoing investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russians during the election.

On Feb. 14, Trump directed several other officials to leave the Oval Office so he could speak privately with Comey.

McCabe has stepped down as the F.B.I.'s deputy director, a move that was widely expected as he has repeatedly come under fire from Republicans in Congress and from President Trump. No charges were brought against Clinton.

McCabe's wife had received campaign donations from then-Democratic Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe in a 2015 state Senate bid, drawing multiple Twitter attacks from the Republican president.

McCabe alerted the FBI of his wife's plans and followed protocol for conflicts of interest in investigations.

Sanders insisted the only pressure Trump has applied in this process was meant to make sure everyone got "Russia fever out of their system" and to drive home the point "there was no collusion".

Another Trump campaign associate, Paul Manafort, was the first person charged in the Russian Federation probe on October 30, led by FBI Director Robert Mueller.

FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe walks to a meeting with members of the House of Representatives on December 21, 2017.

Democrats have said those inquires are meant to undermine and distract from Mueller's investigation. McCabe's role is among those under scrutiny.

Fox News reports that FBI Director Christopher Wray went to the Capitol yesterday to view the House Intelligence Committee's memo.

To Trump, McCabe can't be at the Federal Bureau of Investigation for that reason and that reason alone. Mueller removed Strzok from his team after learning of the texts last summer, and he was reassigned to another post.
