Putin, Netanyahu discuss Middle East

Israeli envoy to UN Iran has 82,000 fighters in Syria

Environmental Protection Minister Ze'ev Elkin (Likud) on Monday morning joined Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting in Moscow to discuss the threat presented by the Hezbollah terror group to Israel, Ynet reported Tuesday.

Speaking in a video statement after his talks with Putin, Netanyahu hailed what he described as a "good and in-depth" meeting.

At Moscow's Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center, Putin and Netanyahu are scheduled to attend the opening of an exhibit on the 1943 uprising at the Nazi death camp in Sobibor.

"Neither the Iranians nor the Syrians like the fact that we have managed to retain the status quo in their airspace, despite Russia's presence".

"There needs to be a long-term and fair solution that fulfills the interests of both sides, and complies with previous stances of the global community", Putin told reporters in December. "We are already acting to stop it".

"As usual, we will take this opportunity to discuss our bilateral relations and the situation in the region", Putin said.

Netanyahu and Putin have met several times since Russian Federation started its military campaign alongside President Bashar Assad's forces to coordinate their military moves.

He said the issues on the agenda include tightening the security coordination between the Israeli military and the Russian army in Syria, and "a series of other issues which are important, and even very important, for Israel's security", he added without elaborating.

"One, the attempts by Iran to base itself militarily in Syria and the second, Iran's attempt to produce in Lebanon accurate weapons against the state of Israel".

"I think that main lesson learned from the rise of the Nazis, and afterwards the defeat of the Nazis, is the need to powerfully stand up to murderous ideology in time", Netanyahu said at the museum. Netanyahu did tell Putin that if Syria does not stop providing Iran with a military platform on its own, "then we will act to stop it". The prime minister said this is "also our mission today" and the reason he came to Russian Federation: "our common efforts to promote security and stability in our region".

As a gift, the Russian president handed him an original letter that Oskar Schindler sent to his wife, Netanyahu said.
