Alexa Can Now Send Texts: Here's How

Can we all agree that we do not want ads on our smart speakers?

Amazon has now expanded Alexa's SMS functions by allowing users to send texts to any phone, rather than just limiting them to messaging other people via the Alexa app. For example, it could come in handy if your phone is charging in another room but you've got an Alexa device nearby. Note, you will not send messages directly from the application. As the teaser said, she has lost her voice and gained an entirely new one in the process. All you have to do is to ask Alexa to text one of the recipients in your contact list.

The skill, which is live in the U.S. now with other countries expected to follow, can send messages using either the Alexa Messaging System for fellow Alexa users or via SMS to everyone else. Then, Alexa will find a way to send that person a message.

However, the feature now works only for sending SMS messages to Android phones. For instance, Google Assistant and Apple's Siri can also do that.

The new voice sounds more human compared to the robotic tone owners of Amazon devices like the Echo are used to hearing when requesting Alexa's services.

It's a clever, amusing ad that just might be our favorite so far.

Though the employees try to calm Bezos down by stating that the alternative is all ready, he seems unconvinced.

Amazon Echo and Dot owners can now access the latest local news and weather from WSLS 10.

Another thing to be mindful of: The "Alexa, send a text message" voice command is different from "Alexa, send a message" command. In Japan, the assistant is capable of speaking Japanese. It is expected that all three accents would be available to U.S. users in the near future.
