All-Electric Jaguar I-PACE's Cold-Weather Tests Bode Well for Canada

Jaguar I Pace Reveal Announced For March 1

Pretty much everything about the all-electric crossover/ SUV hasn't been a secret for a long time as Jaguar chose to preview it via a very similar concept before testing the lightly camouflaged prototype in broad daylight and even releasing official photos of the wrapped vehicle. Part of the testing has also taken in northern Sweden this winter, where temperatures reached as low as -40 degrees.

The I-Pace is now undergoing final testing in Arjeplog, Sweden, with potential customers taking to the wheel in Sweden.

One challenge with EVs in cold weather is the temperature of the battery.

Now, Jaguar has gone to rather colder climes in Arjeplog, Sweden (winter home for premium cars) where it's been letting locals, and the odd journo, see how the electric Jaguar copes in icy conditions. Batteries in particular aren't a fan of being cooled down: it can have a significant impact on overall range, indeed.

It's an impressively short time.

That's not it, though.

That means it will arrive Down Under, where several keen Aussies have already placed orders, just seven months after its world public premiere at the Geneva motor show on March 6, and only six months after the all-new E-PACE small SUV. It's important to note; after all, a Model X on a Tesla Supercharger will now get up to 120 kW - if it's the only auto plugged into the charger - and take around 40 minutes to go from zero to 80-percent.

It sure feels like the Jaguar I-Pace electric vehicle concept was revealed longer ago than November 2016.

While the five seater won't compete directly with a Tesla Model X in the seven seat configuration, the cabin should be no less comfortable.

In addition, owners will be able to use mains power to prepare the battery and cabin temperature ahead of a journey.

The I-Pace has been confirmed to go on sale in Australia late this year, with prices yet to be announced. No word on pricing at this stage, but we should find out all the spec and performance details ahead of the Geneva Motor Show.
